[Event] Gundam Model Kit Contest/GMKC 2015 Retrospective + Coverage [Part 1 of 3]

As promised, here are pictures from the Gundam Model Kit Contest 2015 event which was held last May 18-23, 2015 at the SM Megamall Event Center. These pictures were taken on May 22, a day before the judging.

GMKC is an annual competition is officially sponsored by Bandai, manufacturers of Gunpla (Gundam plastic model kits), and organized by Bankee, the distributor for Bandai products in the Philippines. There are separate categories for newcomers and professionals, as well as different age brackets, Junior (14 and below), Youth (15-20) and Open (21 and above). The judging was held last May 23, and the winners were handpicked by a panel of judges including Bandai South Asia Hobby Products Dept. Manager, Takayoshi Oyama.

Joining GMKC was one of my goals this year, and it felt great being able to be part of it! My entry was the HGBF 1/144 Mega Shiki - a customized Hyaku Shiki from 'Gundam Build Fighters Try'. It was my first time painting a kit, so even if I knew stuff in theory, I still had to learn a lot of things on the fly. Thankfully I had a lot of friends who helped me out with tips and pointers, though at the end of the day, experience really is the best teacher. I almost didn't make it into the contest since I rushed my entry, but I was able to make it on the last hour of the last day of submission. Whew!

It was an educational and enjoyable experience, and I'm really looking forward to joining more Gunpla contests in the future. For now though, gotta brush up on my building skills!

Alrighty then, here's part 1 of the GMKC 2015 coverage, with pictures of MechaPinoy's Gunpla exhibition.
